LA PLATA COMMUNITY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
Music Through the Years
Sara Beth Fouch has been honored over the years for her service as the organist and music director. She became the church organist in 1965 and has provided beautiful worship music for over 59 years. In 2015, a dinner and a reception were held in Sara Beth’s honor immediately after Sunday worship. Her gift of musical talent is a blessing to every service.

In 1984, Peggy Turner, Shirley Matticks, and Patsyippin started a children’s choir, “The Promises,” for children in kindergarten through 4th grade. They practiced every Wednesday the school year and performed monthly during Sunday worship. There are many fond memories, for both children and adults, of children singing “I Am A Promise.” The Promises were active for about 10 years.

In 1997, new music was introduced to our worship service. Memorial monies were used to purchase new song books, a keyboard, and sound equipment. In addition, several of our musical members began a worship band called “Cross Section.” The band provided special music and together with the choir, “Cross Section” made our worship services more enriching. As always, we glorified God by making a joyful song. In 2003-2004, Peggy Turner, Shirley Matticks and Twila Thompson started another Children’s Choir after school. Nine to twelve members sang each month in the Worship Service. Also in 2003, John Gorham and his group, “Boundless Love”, sang to a large crowd at CPC. In 2010, we were again blessed by a performance by Grandpa John Gorham.
